Bonum Home Improvement builds and repairs timber, picket, slat and Colorbond fencing, pedestrian gates, sliding gates and automated driveway gates across Highett, Bayside Melbourne and nearby suburbs. We can coordinate posts, framing, cladding, gate hardware, motors and finishing for secure, practical access.
Melbourne weather does not always follow the building schedule, so we look for practical ways to keep the project moving. For this custom sliding driveway gate, we secured temporary weather protection above the work area so the timber infill, painted frame and track installation could continue safely during the rain. The result in progress combines warm vertical timber boards with a robust light-coloured frame designed to coordinate with the existing front fence.
View project photosWe created this substantial heritage-style street boundary for a St Albans home, combining a traditional timber picket fence with a matching pedestrian gate and automated sliding driveway gate. Decorative spear-top pickets and turned post caps reinforce the period character, while the cream and deep red colour scheme coordinates with the home’s verandah and roof. The integrated letterbox, robust gate frame and discreet sliding motor bring modern security and convenient access into the traditional design.
View project photosWe built this substantial street boundary in Parkdale using horizontal Merbau slats, robust timber posts and custom-framed double driveway gates. The long fence follows the footpath and maintains consistent board spacing across each section, while the matching gates create a wide, practical entrance without breaking the continuous timber design. An integrated letterbox completes the frontage with a clean and functional detail.
View project photosWe designed and built this custom Merbau screen to conceal the outdoor equipment and services beside the home while keeping the narrow side path clear. Horizontal hardwood slats wrap neatly around the corner on a raised frame, with consistent ventilation gaps and carefully aligned mitred detailing. The rich timber finish complements the original red-brick façade and transforms a practical service area into a considered architectural feature, while maintaining the airflow and access required for future servicing.
View project photosA different take on the traditional front fence. We created this custom street boundary using wide charcoal composite boards set vertically within a black metal frame. The fence was divided into clean, evenly spaced sections and carefully stepped to follow the sloping footpath. An integrated letterbox keeps the frontage practical without interrupting the strong contemporary lines, while the low-maintenance composite finish gives the home a distinctive new street presence.
View project photosThe existing sliding gate motor had suffered severe damage and was no longer serviceable. We removed the failed unit and replaced it with a new Automation Systems Australia Titan 1000 operator, integrating it with the existing sliding gate and control components before setting up and testing the gate’s operation. The replacement restores reliable automatic access while retaining the existing gate, rack and surrounding structure.
View project photosWe renewed this street-facing boundary with horizontal slatted timber fencing, a matching pedestrian gate and wide double driveway gates. The timber infill and supporting elements were carefully prepared and finished in black to match the adjoining fence, creating a consistent contemporary frontage while retaining visibility and airflow through the slats.
View project photosWe replaced the ageing corner boundary fence with a new timber paling fence and matching pedestrian gate. The stepped layout follows the property boundary and footpath, while substantial posts, treated timber plinths and metal capping provide a neat, durable finish around the street frontage.
View project photosWe replaced the ageing side boundary with a durable Colorbond fence, creating a clean, consistent and low-maintenance separation along the property. The new fence follows the boundary line with stepped panels, secure posts and treated timber plinths at the base, providing greater privacy and a neat finish beside the home and laneway.
View project photosWe built this new street-facing timber picket fence for a Bayside home, using substantial dressed posts, treated timber plinths, neat capping and evenly spaced vertical pickets. The fence follows the long property boundary and incorporates the existing mailbox, creating a practical, durable and well-proportioned frontage.
View project photosFor around ten years, the client had struggled with this original Victorian-style pedestrian gate because it no longer aligned or closed correctly. We restored its operation by repairing the lower pivot area and fitting a precisely machined replacement hinge pin. The original decorative ironwork was retained, and the gate can now swing, align and close properly again.
View project photosWe replaced the improvised timber barriers around this home with a coordinated Merbau slat fence and two pedestrian gates. The horizontal hardwood boards create a warm, consistent finish and improved privacy, while the custom metal gate frames, secure hinges and latches provide reliable everyday access. The new work was carefully fitted between the existing house, boundary fencing, garden and services.
View project photosWe built this long Colorbond boundary fence in Moonee Ponds with timber posts, treated timber plinths and decorative lattice panels across the top. The combination provides privacy and durability while allowing light and air through the upper section. The fence was carefully stepped and aligned along the existing cobblestone laneway and continued into the covered area beside the home for a consistent finish.
