This covered balcony was opened for structural repairs, with the roof temporarily supported while the existing balustrades were carefully removed and set aside for reuse. The substrate and structural framing were rebuilt and prepared before the surface was waterproofed and tiled. New support posts were supplied and installed, then the original balustrades were reinstated and their paintwork touched up where required. The result is a clean, durable outdoor area finished around the existing brick façade and covered roof.

View project photosThe main challenge on this Brighton balcony was safely removing the heavy existing wrought-iron balustrades. We cut them free with an angle grinder, carried them through the house and lowered them from the second-storey balcony at the front of the property. Before refinishing, we welded on purpose-made connection details so the sections could be securely joined and reattached to their original fixing points. The balustrades were then taken away for sandblasting and powder coating before being returned and installed. The restoration preserved the original decorative metalwork with a renewed, durable finish, and the client was very pleased with the result.
